About Us: Why We Built I Love Fractions

Because honestly, nobody should cry over a common denominator.

Math shouldn’t make anybody cry, but fractions have a funny way of causing meltdowns at kitchen tables everywhere. That’s exactly why we built I Love Fractions.

We didn’t start this site because we think learning math is “crucial for everyday life” or “pivotal for mathematical literacy.” (Though, sure, it is.) We built it because we were tired of seeing kids hit a wall the second a number had a line through the middle of it.

If you’ve ever tried to explain why 1/4 is smaller than 1/3 to a frustrated nine-year-old, you know exactly what we mean.

Visuals Over Rules

A lot of math instruction throws procedural rules at kids right away—find the lowest common denominator, multiply the top and bottom, carry the one. It’s exhausting to memorize.

We take a different angle. We want students to see the math first. If you can visually grasp that cutting a pizza into more slices makes each slice smaller, you’re halfway to understanding why 1/8 is less than 1/2. We built our interactive tools specifically to bridge that gap between abstract numbers and tangible reality.

What’s Actually on the Site?

We kept it simple.

  • The Calculators: Not just for cheating on homework. Our tools actually map out the step-by-step work. If you’re stuck on why the answer is 7/12, the calculator shows you the exact reasoning.
  • Visual Models: Drag, drop, and color in shapes. Once you can picture it, the rule starts making sense.
  • Practice Without the Pressure: Generating endless, random practice problems without the anxiety of a timed test.

Who Is This For?

Honestly? Anyone who needs it. We get regular emails from parents trying to keep up with fifth-grade math homework, teachers looking for something quick to pull up on a smartboard, and adult learners who just want to refresh their skills without feeling talked down to.

Fractions are tough. But they aren’t impossible. If our tools save even one family from a homework-induced argument tonight, we consider that a win.
