Converting Fractions

Objective

Students will learn to convert fractions to decimals and percentages.

Materials

  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Conversion worksheets (e.g., 3/4 to decimal)
  • Calculators (optional)

Instructions

  1. Link fractions to decimals and percentages (e.g., 1/2 is half, or 0.5, or 50%).
  2. Convert to decimals: Divide numerator by denominator (e.g., 3/4 = 3 ÷ 4 = 0.75).
  3. Convert to percentages: From decimal (multiply by 100, 0.75 = 75%) or adjust denominator to 100 (e.g., 1/4 = 25/100 = 25%).
  4. Practice on the whiteboard (e.g., 2/5, 7/10).
  5. Discuss uses (e.g., 25% off a price).
  6. Hand out worksheets.
